Frances Candelas Sánchez MSc

President

She has been a constant help from the founding members the Marine Environment Society (“Sociedad Ambiente Marino, SAM) since 2001, coordinating many of its marine conservation projects, research activities and coral reef rehabilitation program. She is participating of SAM’s Community-Based Coral Aquaculture and Reef Rehabilitation Program since 2003, the most extensive and continuous coral farming and reef rehabilitation program of the eastern Caribbean. Have received training on biological characterization and inventories, marine mitigations and benthic habitat restoration activities.

At present, she still collaborating in multiple projects regarding coral farming, coral reef rehabilitation, marine mitigation of environmental impacts, and coral reef cross-scale research activities associated to: Coral farming and reef ecological rehabilitation.

  • Bs.Sc. –University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras (2001)

  • Bs. Veterinary Technology – University of Puerto Rico- Medical Science (2003)Bs. Veterinary Technology – University of Puerto Rico- Medical Science (2003)

  • Over 15 years of experience conducting coral transplanting activities

  • Over 15 years of experience conducting coral farming and reef rehabilitation activities

  • Planning, design and development of coral farming, reef rehabilitation, and marine mitigation

  • Knowledge in marine, coral and fish species

  • Experienced recreational and scientific SCUBA diver, >2,000 dives, involvement in SCUBA diving, marine field surveys, monitoring and ecosystem rehabilitation programs, including reef, coral monitoring projects, vessel grounding emergency restoration efforts.
